Here at Stewart Hill, autumn festivities approach, we are proud to say the role of women in the wine industry is celebrating well-deserved recognition. In Spain and Argentina. known for centuries of winemaking, we are part of an increasing number of women at the forefront, from vineyard management to winemaking.
In Spain, women are being acknowledged for cultivation of Grenache (or Garnacha) known for its full-bodied flavor and versatility in regions like Rioja and Priorat, where female winemakers are experimenting with techniques to elevate the wine’s profile. Argentina, the world’s fifth largest wine producer, women are playing key roles in crafting wines from robust grape varieties like Cabernet Sauvignon and Syrah, particularly in the Mendoza region. Their contribution transforms the local industry and is uncorking international acclaim!
As wine lovers prepare for Autumn and Winter festivities, these varietals offer rich, bold flavors perfect for the season’s heartier dishes. Whether it’s a spicy Grenache from Spain or a full-bodied Cabernet Sauvignon or Syrah from Argentina, wines crafted by female winemakers apport depth, character, and colour to the table, making this fall’s celebrations all the more memorable.
Women wine investors and winemakers are carving a path across the United States. Major wine producing states; Oregon, Washington, and New York and California, which produces the vast majority of the nation’s wine, has the highest volume of women led wineries, accounting for around 14% of the state’s producers. Oregon also scores, with about 30% women winemakers.
In Washington, women owned wineries growth is contributing to the state’s wine industry; the second largest in the U.S. Also, regions like Idaho and New York’s Finger Lakes are seeing women’s leadership.
These women are investing not only in producing high quality wines but also in reshaping the traditionally male dominated industry, bringing fresh perspectives and sustainable practices to the table.
